Cyclones land Duke transfer safety

Ivan Pierre Aguirre, USA Today

Former Duke safety Evrett Edwards announced Monday that he plans to transfer to Iowa State for grad school and his final two seasons of college football eligibility.

Edwards visited Iowa State in mid-April and had schools such as Maryland, Utah State and Troy also in the mix for his services. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Everett was looking for an opportunity to prove himself on the football field in the same way he proved himself academically at Duke. He'll graduate in 3 1/2 years.

He played sparingly at Duke and that was his primary motivation for moving on. Edwards appeared in all 13 of the Blue Devils’ games last year, recording six tackles in light duty that included special teams. He made 20 tackles in 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2014, including seven against Pitt and four in a game with Kansas.

Everett is a native of Woodbridge, Virginia, meaning he shares the same hometown as one of Iowa State's all-time greats - 1970s running back Dexter Green.
